In person events are back and so is fashion!
The BRITs 2021 was the first live event of the year and, as we watched the celebs walk the red carpet, we couldn’t help but smile at the sense of normality (for them, not us). The O2 arena was packed with deserving key workers, amazing music and some of the best artists that Britain has to offer, all wearing incredible outfits. Here are The Femme’s picks for best fashion moments at the BRITs 2021.
Griff not only wowed us on the red carpet but during her performance too. She entered the event wearing a shredded pastel purple, blue and tan dress with a bold headdress made from wire and bubble-like beads. The look was created by Susan Fang, a Saint Martins graduate, as Griff said she wanted to ‘wear an upcoming designer’. We were told that her performance look, a deconstructed metallic purple dress held together with metal loops, was made by Griff herself! She can sing and sew, we’re jealous!
The presenter always stuns on the red carpet and despite being at home for a year, this time was no different. She wore a black long-sleeved mini dress, with a low neckline and a bare midriff that dripped with diamonds. The dress is an AREA creation and is the perfect for Maya Jama!
Despite the seemingly popular opinion that Mabel’s look was one of the worst of the night, we are here to tell you that we loved it! She looked incredible in a backless lime-green gown that has a slit up to her right thigh and is adorned with silver and green diamonds. The dress was custom made by Tony Ward couture and was paired with matching opera gloves. Mabel stated that it was “a custom Tinkerbell inspired moment” and we have to agree!
MNEK added layers and and texture to the typical tuxedo look at the BRITs 2021 but we knew he wouldn’t disappoint. The custom pale blue suit by Zhong Lin features a structured jacket and a pleated skirt layered on top of wide-legged pleated trousers. Despite being pale blue, the look was bold, brave and perfect for the BRITs.
Opera gloves were definitely the chosen accessory of the night as Raye donned a hot pink pair to match her Marilyn Monroe inspired dress. The hot pink Etro dress features a corset waist and off the shoulder sleeves encrusted with pink crystals. Adding to the film star glamour look, Raye’s gloves were covered in Bulgari jewellery. We can’t get enough of this brightly coloured, old Hollywood inspired look!
Little Mix were highly anticipated guests at the BRITs 2021. It was a huge night for them, debuting not only themselves as an official trio but also Perrie and Leigh-Anne’s baby bumps! They looked stunning in three standout white looks. Leigh-Anne, ever the fashion experimenter, wore a wet-look gown by Mason Margiela. Jade wore an incredible silk, strapless gown by Vivienne Westwood and Perrie wore…”white”. The singer couldn’t remember the name of the designer whilst on the red carpet (she later stated she has baby brain so its understandable) but not to worry because we found out that her beach inspired set was by David Koma. We couldn’t be happier for these girls!
Gracey wore a beautiful pale green, one shoulder gown that we think is by GCDS, as that is the brand that she has tagged in her ‘getting ready for the BRITs’ TikTok (also, she had their name around her neck). The dress is made out of a shimmering fabric in the colour of the season and looked incredible on the “Don’t Need Love” singer.
Its hard to believe that this stunning lilac dress is from the Balmain archive and not especially made for Rina Sawayama herself because she looked as if she was born to wear it! The gorgeous couture dress features a voluminous ruffled skirt and a cut out bodice – we want it!
Harry Styles appeared out of nowhere during the middle of the award show but we’re glad he turned up because we got to see his amazing retro suit look! The 1970’s inspired look is fresh off the runway from Gucci’s fall 2021 collection. It features different tones of brown and cream placed in a typical 70s style pattern. The look just wouldn’t have been complete without the brown leather bag with a bamboo strap!
We were blown away when Olivia Rodrigo took to the stage for her first British performance by both her singing and her outfit. She wore a red sequined two piece consisting of a bikini style top and shorts under a sheer deep red cape. The ‘Drivers License’ singer looked incredible in the Dior ensemble and its safe to say she left a lasting impression on us Brits!
So there we have it, The Femme’s best fashion moments from the BRITs 2021. We’re off to buy some opera gloves!
