Fashions Biggest Night Out is right around the corner!
Every year we eagerly await the first Monday in May to watch celebrities climb the met steps in extravagant outfits. We wait to see who will be on theme and who will abandon it completely in order to wear a classic designer gown.
We have all of the information on this years long-awaited Met Ball including where to watch it live for the first time ever!
When is the Met Gala 2021?
As previously mentioned, the Met Gala normally takes place on the first Monday in May. However, due to the pandemic, the eagerly awaited 2021 Met Ball has been moved to Monday the 13th of September. It will be a spectacular end to New York Fashion Week!
What is This Years Theme?
Over the years the celebrities have ascended the Met steps dressing for various themes such as; Camp (no, celebrities did not wear tents, although they probably would’ve still been on theme), Heavenly Bodies, Manus x Machina and Punk to name a few. This year the theme is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”.
Andrew Bolton told Vogue that the theme centers around the question; ‘Who gets to be American?’. Speaking on the theme he said ‘it tackles this notion of acceptance and belonging’ and that “American designers are at the forefront of conversations about diversity, inclusivity, sustainability, gender fluidity and body positivity”. The focus will be on young designers and how they interpret those ideas alongside classic American designers such as Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang and Calvin Klein.
Who are the Co-Chairs?
Every year Anna Wintour selects four celebrities to be co-chairs at the exclusive event. This year, Timothee Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka will take on the responsibility.
Which Celebrities Will be Attending?
On Twitter there has been discourse over the past couple of weeks about who will be attending the 2021 Met Gala. An unofficial seating chart has predicted the attendance of YouTuber and Louis Vuitton ambassador Emma Chamberlain attending alongside TikTok stars Addison Rae and the D’Amelio sisters. It wouldn’t be the first time that an influencer had made an appearance on the steps as James Charles attended at the last Met Ball in 2019.
The seating chart has been confirmed to be fake but we can expect a few Gen-Z trend-setters to be walking the steps alongside the usual attendees such as Bella and Gigi Hadid and Blake Lively.
How Can We Watch the Met Gala 2021?
In previous years, Met Gala lovers have had to constantly refresh the Met Gala hashtag on Twitter to get a glimpse of the extraordinary clothes worn by A-listers. This year Vogue has announced that anyone and everyone will be able to watch the celebs arriving in real-time through an official live stream hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer. The stream will start at 10:30pm BST on September the 13th.
Although we’d love to be there in person, we can’t wait to watch fashion’s biggest night out from the comfort of our own homes!
